Some problems never go away

I have had continuous problems with the Tilt's display and hang ups.
You need to reset by taking out the battery and putting it back. This is not a solution. This can happen when someone s trying to reach you and it drives you crazy. I want to send it back to AT & T. I will work on it. The pictures tell the story.

Right in the middle of an incoming call (nothing works):

Adding a Video Clip to your Tilt

In three steps you will see how you can add a video clip to your AT & T Tilt

Step1: Import Clip
Import the Video you created to Microsoft Windows Movie Maker. I have Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_Sp3_gdr.090206-1234: SP3). Use File | Import into Collections... My computer is a laptop, Toshiba Satellite P105-S6134 with SP3.

Step 2: Edit the clip

Edit the movie. You can add a title and select a smaller portion of the video if it is too big.

Step 3: Save File

Click File | Save Movie File...
Here are some screen shots

Save them to the format shown.

When it is saved connect your AT & T Tilt to the desktop/laptop. Drag and drop the saved file to the Tilt.

That is all folks!

Here is a small movie I created

Tilt's Built_in camera

Actually it is pretty good.

Here is a sample. This video was captured with tilt. The scene is from the recently held Code Camp 2009.1 held at De Vry University in Philadelphia.

Well sometimes the video upload icon disappears from the Posting page. You can see the video on my other blog:

Scrolling so rough!!

Scrolling screens in AT&T Tilt is very rough. Compared to dragging screens up and down, or from right to left in the more recent cell phones is so neat that should you think twice about buying AT & T. Well, I bought it because it was cheap and had the right OS on it.

ActiveSync 4.5 and file transfer problems with AT & T Tilt

This is the second time I had to completly remove ActiveSync 4.5 and reinstall it. Repair does not work. I have checked the connectivity as much as I can, it is not a connection problem. It is something to
do with the program associated with file transfers.
Connection details that you may see on your My Network Connections on your computer

Here is the display of the PING results. I pinged both the default gateway as well as the device according to the above.

Well, ActiveSync is not all that 'Active' is it?

Look forward to my next article on PACKT  with the tentative title,
"Deploying SQL Anywhere 11 to the Mobile Platform"

Comcast WiFi Beta - Good News

And it is about time. ...

Good to know that you can get internet access without an additional provider for your outdoor activities. If you are already a comcast customer you can access internet using WiFi at most New Jersey Commuter Stations. You need a WiFi enabled Laptop. Of course it should be possible with a 3G Phone as well.

The WiFi service is comcastWiFi and you need your comcast authentication to get in.

Live Search for Windows Mobile 6

Microsoft's Live Search is now available for Mobile 6. You can find stuff more easily and even locate yourself easily. Lots of reasons why this is good for you.

Download link for Live Search for Windows Mobile:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0CADB896-8017-4E0F-8A40-16AE66BD185E&displaylang=en

Requirements:
Supported Operating Systems: Windows Mobile 6; Windows Mobile 6 Classic; Windows Mobile 6 Professional; Windows Mobile 6 Standard; Windows Mobile 6.1

Installation:

Download the CAB file and place it in the HTC-8900MyDocuments.
Connect your AT and Tilt to the laptop/desktop
Connect the USB cable between LapTop/PC and the Tilt
When the devices synchronizes you should see the Live Search cab file
on your device. I saved it to my 2GB storage card on my mobile.

Now click on the cab file. It gets installed and you should see a shortcut icon
on your device.

Some Tilt Problems I recently encountered

1. In the past one week the "ON" switch did not start the

mobile device. This is the 3rd time this has happanned
within this year. I hope this will not become a daily affair.

The fix:
Open the cover in the back, and take out
the battery and put it back.

2. The ActiveSync got switched to (in)ActiveSync. What I
mean is I could see the device related folders on my
laptop but I could not see any files on my mobile device. I am
sure the USB cable was OK because I could see the "Mobile
Device" in MyComputer on the laptop as well as in my network
   connections.

The fix:
I downloaded the latest ActiveSync4.5 and tried to run. It
aborted. I went back to Control Panel and removed the existing
ActiveSync. I tried the new installation [Activesync4.5msi, 7.52MB]
again. This time it was OK. It should be trivial because I am
not synchronizing with MS Outlook. I just swap folders.
If you want to synchronize with your Outlook then yo need to
create a 'Profile' by working with the 'Mail' icon in the Control
Panel

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, 16-19 February 2009, Blue Earth Debut

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona

This is the GSMA world Congress showcasing all that is important to the mobile industry. All types of stake holders will meet, leaders, equipment makers, mobile operators etc.

Blue Earth debut

Samsung will be unvieling its Blue Earth mobile phone with the following features:

Its appearance is blue, but it is really 'Green'

Why?

  1. It has one side studded with solar cells and looks like you need very little or no power to operate
  2.  It is made of recycled plastic
  3.  A built-in pedometer that is both a activity monitor as well asa meter to check how much you saved by not driving [in tree saved units].

What I think should happen next?

1. Each indiviudal uploads the savings he /she made to a national database and this will help in accurately accessing carbon-di-oxide emissions.

2. Create a little receptacle at the roof of your car into which the solar active side of the Blue Earth can slip into. When you open the door arrange to pick it up with an audio signal.

Skyfire browser for AT & T Tilt

It appears that Skyfire is a better browser than the defult installed browser for the Tilt.

Skyfire browser site info:

Product site: http://GET.SKYFIRE.COM

This browser is only for Phones.

It runs on the following:
HTC Tilt (A T & T Tit)
HTC Touch
Diamond
HTC Fuze
Motorola Q and Q9
Palm 800W
Samsung BlackjackII

Three ways to install:
Go to website
Send a text message from the above site to your cell phone
Install thru' PC

To install thru' PC you will download a CAB file(Skyfire-SMP.CAB 556 kb). You can then use ActiveSync.
